Editor review

Shock Skate is a side-scrolling skateboard-dodge game with electric obstacles. Your skater rolls forward continuously; you can hop or duck to clear vertical obstacles and shift lanes to avoid horizontal ones. The format is auto-runner-dodger but the electricity-themed twist on hazards adds a readability layer that most runners miss.

What works is the visual telegraphing. Electric arcs that will hit your lane glow brighter a half-second before they fire. Static obstacles do not glow. This visual rule is teachable and consistent, which means once you learn it, you can react to threats with confidence rather than panic.

I played through six commute sessions on the Cross-City Line over a week. Each run lasts around two to three minutes before a hit ends it, which fits a train stop. The skater-cosmetic unlocks are tied to distance milestones and the unlock pace feels appropriate (every two or three full sessions yields a new visual).

Tested on phone and laptop, also with a bluetooth controller for comparison. Mobile touch with swipe input works beautifully. Desktop keyboard with arrow keys also works. Gamepad d-pad is acceptable but the swipe gesture on touch is the most natural fit.

Where the game stretches itself is the boss-style stage every twentieth obstacle. The boss segment puts you in a closed arena with a single electric construct firing predictable patterns that you have to dodge for thirty seconds before the run continues. These segments break up the auto-runner rhythm in a way I welcomed.

Where I would push back is the music. The chosen track is a high-energy electronic loop that grates within two sessions. The mute button is in settings but is buried. A quick-mute on the main menu would be a kindness.

Four stars. Strong auto-runner with a clear visual-telegraph system and well-paced boss segments. The music is the one design choice I would change.
