Snake Arena X is a slither.io descendant with disciplined player-versus-player balance and reasonable matchmaking. Up to fifty players per server. Each player controls a snake; collide with another player's body and you explode into pellets they can collect.
What works is the matchmaking. New players are placed in lower-skill servers initially. As your survival times grow, servers escalate skill. This prevents the new-player frustration of being instantly killed by veterans, which plagues most io games.
Tested across maybe twenty matches on a Mumbai weekend. The matchmaking worked well; my early matches were against players of comparable skill, and the difficulty escalated naturally as I survived longer.
Where the design earns its rating is the boost mechanic. Hold the boost button to accelerate; spending boost-fuel that regenerates slowly. Skilled players use boost for aggressive cuts in front of opponents to make them crash. Unskilled players burn boost on retreat and get caught anyway.
What works less is the cosmetic monetisation. Snake skins and trail effects are paid. They do not affect gameplay; just visual flair. Fine in concept but the persistent shop pressure during matches grates.
Where I would push back is the absence of team modes. Most io games offer team variants. Snake Arena X is free-for-all only.
Four-and-a-half stars. Strong slither.io variant with thoughtful matchmaking. Recommended for io fans who want the format without the new-player frustration.
