Editor review

Crash Pit is the worst platformer I have reviewed for AJ Arcade. The fundamental physics are wrong and the hit detection is unreliable. The level design appears to be procedural without any human curation, producing a string of unmemorable stages. Two stars is generous.

What works is nothing about the platformer mechanics. Movement is floaty when it should be weighty. Jumps have inconsistent arcs, and collision detection registers hits even when there is visible gap between character and obstacle.

Thirty stages of nearly-identical content. The procedural-generation produces stages that feel interchangeable. The lack of human-designed levels means there is no learning curve and no narrative arc, plus no memorable moments across the campaign.

Tested over one Cross-City Line train stop before giving up. Touch and keyboard both demonstrate the same physics problems. The bugs are in the game logic.

Where the game tries hardest is the cosmetic-character unlock system. Twenty different character skins, all paid currency or grindable. This is the only feature that works as designed, and it works as the wrong design (mobile-game monetisation grafted onto a broken platformer).

Where I would push back is the entire game. There is no part of Crash Pit I would recommend. The fundamental design is wrong and the execution is broken. The monetisation is also intrusive on top of that. Skip without hesitation.

Two stars. The game functions in the strictest sense but should not be played by anyone. Skip and find any other platformer on this catalogue.
