Editor review
Iron Summit is the best platformer I have driven for AJ Arcade. Strong words for the genre, but Iron Summit earns them with the rare combination of execution discipline and level-design intelligence, plus rare post-campaign content depth. The game has been my evening focus for six weeks.
What works first is the moveset. Six abilities (jump, double jump, dash, wall-jump, wall-slide, hang) interact in compound ways. The level design assumes mastery of compound interactions. By the late campaign you are wall-jump-cancelling into double-jump-dashes through corridors that have no room for error. This is what high-execution platforming feels like.
Sixty hand-designed levels across six zones. Each zone introduces one new mechanic and integrates it with the existing moveset. Snow ice, industrial conveyors, breakable forest platforms, mountain wind, volcano heat-cooldown, and a final crystal gauntlet that combines everything. The mechanical complexity grows considerably across the campaign.
Tested across maybe fifty hours of play over six weeks. Keyboard with arrow keys plus z/x is the precision configuration. Gamepad d-pad is acceptable for casual sessions. The format is precision-platformer; touch input is technically supported but not viable for late-campaign content.
Where this game pushes past every other platformer I have played in a browser is the post-campaign content. After clearing the main campaign, two additional modes unlock: B-side levels (alternate-routes through the same zones with harder execution requirements), and a 'true ending' route gated behind 100% gem collection across all 60 base levels. The post-campaign content is substantial enough to count as a second game.
Where I would push back is the boss design. Six bosses across six zones, and three of them feel undercooked compared to the level design. The intelligent design that makes the levels work seems to have skipped some of the bosses. This is the one place where the game falls short of its own standard.
Five stars. The best platformer on the AJ Arcade catalogue. Recommended without reservation for anyone who appreciates platformer-craft.
