Editor review
Lane Merge is the worst racing game I have driven for AJ Arcade. The premise is straightforward. Drive forward in a multi-lane road and merge between lanes to avoid other cars. The execution fails at the basics.
What does not work is the lane-merge mechanic itself. Lane changes happen instantly. There is no animation or momentum on the lane change, and no sense of the car physically moving across lanes. The game treats lane position as a discrete state, which makes the format feel less like driving and more like a stacker puzzle.
The collision detection is also wrong. Cars in adjacent lanes register as collisions if the lane-change finishes too close to them. This punishes the player for the game's own animation absence.
Tested over a single Barcelona commute session before deleting. Touch and keyboard inputs both feel wrong because the format has no analog input layer. Gamepad is supported but the binary nature of the lane change makes gamepad input pointless.
Where the game tries hardest is the cosmetic-car unlock system. Twenty different car designs unlock through grindable progression. None of them affect gameplay. The cosmetic layer is the only working part of the game.
Where I would push back is everything. The fundamental mechanic is broken. The collision detection is wrong, and the visual presentation is generic with non-existent audio. There is no reason for this game to exist on a curated catalogue.
Two stars. The game functions barely. Skip and find any other browser racer; almost all of them are better.
