Editor review

Mini Grid Pro is a go-kart racer aiming at the Mario Kart format without the variety that makes Mario Kart interesting. Eight characters across eight tracks with six power-ups. The skeleton of the format is there; the meat is missing.

The fundamental cornering and acceleration physics are fine. The cars handle as you would expect from a kart format. The drift mini-boost system is implemented correctly. None of the foundational mechanics are broken.

What is missing is the personality. Mario Kart succeeds because each character has a distinct handling profile and each track has memorable visual identity. The power-ups create real tactical decisions on top of that. Mini Grid Pro reskins this surface without the underlying variety. The characters handle identically. The tracks blur together, and the power-ups are functional but generic.

Tested over three Barcelona Sants commute sessions and a longer weekend bench-test. Touch with virtual stick is fine. Gamepad is preferable. Keyboard arrow keys work but the format benefits from analog control.

Where the game tries hardest is the local multiplayer mode, where two players share a keyboard. The split-screen rendering is acceptable. Local multiplayer is the only context where I would recommend this game over alternatives, because the alternatives are mostly single-player browser titles.

Where I would push back is the absence of online multiplayer. A kart racer in 2026 without online multiplayer is missing the obvious extension. The local-only multiplayer feels like an afterthought rather than a core feature.

Two-and-a-half stars. Functional kart racer that does not stretch the format. Skip in favour of either Mario Kart proper or better browser kart racers.
