Editor review

Wind Rider is a platformer with constant horizontal wind affecting jump trajectories. The wind direction shifts on a timer; you have to adjust your jumps for the current wind state. Twenty-five stages.

What works is the wind-physics integration. Wind direction is visualised through animated streamers in the background. Wind strength varies stage-to-stage, and strong wind pushes you off course mid-jump while weak wind is a minor adjustment to standard platforming. Reading the streamers becomes the meta-skill.

Twenty-five stages across three themed zones. The first zone introduces gentle winds. The second zone adds wind-direction changes mid-stage, and the third zone has unpredictable gusts. The escalation is appropriate.

Tested over four Cross-City Line train sessions. Touch works fine, and keyboard arrow keys plus space is comfortable on desktop. Gamepad d-pad is also fine.

Where the design earns its three-and-a-half is the wind-aware level layout. Stages are designed so the wind matters every jump rather than being a flavour-text mechanic. The mid-air drift makes you commit to jumps with imperfect information, which adds tension to even simple traversal.

Where I would push back is the absence of difficulty options. The wind mechanic raises the floor of platformer difficulty significantly. A casual mode with reduced wind intensity would have broadened the audience without compromising the harder modes.

Three-and-a-half stars. Solid wind-mechanic platformer with thoughtful level design. The difficulty floor is too high for the format to appeal to all platformer audiences.
