Editor review
Ammo Frame is a twin-stick shooter in the Geometry Wars tradition with eight weapon types and modular ammo management. Move with left stick, aim with right stick, fire continuously. The format is the genre's bread-and-butter and Ammo Frame executes it confidently.
What works is the ammo-management layer. Each weapon has an ammo pool. Ammo regenerates slowly when you stop firing. Holding the trigger drains ammo fast; tap-firing extends ammo. This creates pulse-fire vs. spray decisions that pure twin-stick shooters lack.
Three modes round out the package. Campaign covers thirty stages, and endless wave plus challenge modes extend the format beyond the main campaign.
Tested with gamepad twin-stick. Mouse-aim plus keyboard movement also works. Touch is supported but the twin-stick format depends on simultaneous two-axis input that touch cannot reliably provide.
Where the design earns its four stars is the visual presentation. Geometric shapes with subtle motion blur. Bullet trails fade with appropriate timing, and enemy explosions are satisfying without becoming visual noise. The visual style is competent twin-stick.
Where I would push back is the soundtrack. Generic electronic music that does not match the precision-shooter aesthetic. The music feels grafted on. A more focused-soundscape selection would have improved the experience.
Four stars. Solid twin-stick shooter with thoughtful ammo-management layer. Recommended for genre fans, especially those who enjoy resource-management on top of aim-and-fire.
