Editor review

Court Cross is a basketball arcade game with simple controls and surprising depth. Five-a-side games with three-minute halves. The format is reminiscent of NBA Jam (1993) without the over-the-top stylisation, focusing instead on player-positioning and shot-selection.

What works is the shot-selection menu. Each player has a shot-success-rate that depends on position (close-shot, mid-range, three-point, contested). The game shows current shot-rate as a percentage before you commit. This information lets you decide whether to take the shot or pass for a better one.

Sixteen teams across one league. The teams cycle through a balanced league structure. Each team has different player-skill profiles; choosing your team affects which shots are highest-percentage.

Tested over three commute sessions. Gamepad with analog stick is the comfortable input. Touch with virtual stick is acceptable. Keyboard arrow keys are precise but feel less natural for basketball's flow.

Where the design earns its four stars is the shot-percentage display. Most basketball arcade games hide the shot-rate or pretend it doesn't matter. Court Cross surfaces it explicitly. Players develop intuition for which shots are good without needing to memorise hidden stats.

Where I would push back is the absence of a custom team mode. The sixteen pre-built teams cover the basics, but custom-team creation would have let players experiment with their own roster combinations.

Four stars. Strong basketball arcade with transparent shot-percentage system. Recommended for basketball fans who appreciate position-aware play.
