Pitch Perfect is a top-down football (the proper kind with feet) arcade game that respects the sport's flow. Eleven-a-side matches with eight-minute halves. The format is reminiscent of Sensible Soccer (1992) with modern visuals, and the Sensible Soccer comparison is the right one because both games understand that football is about space-creation rather than power-shooting.

What works is the passing mechanic. Hold the pass button to charge pass-power; release to pass. Direction is set by your movement-stick at release. Quick passes are short; charged passes are long. Players who understand that the short-pass-build-up is what creates space dominate the matches.

Sixteen teams across two leagues. The leagues are fictional but the team-stats vary realistically. Each team has different formation tendencies and player-skill distributions. Cycling through teams across the campaign gives you different tactical experiences.

Tested over four Cross-City Line commute sessions plus a longer weekend cup-run on the couch. Gamepad analog stick is the comfortable input for the format. Touch with virtual stick works for casual play. Keyboard arrow keys are precise enough but feel less natural for the analog-pass-direction setting.

Where the design earns its rating is the AI passing model. AI players make off-ball runs into space, and AI teammates anticipate your passes and position themselves to receive. The AI behaves like footballers rather than position-locked sprites. This is what Sensible Soccer got right and most FIFA-style games miss.

Where I would push back is the absence of league-table tracking across multiple seasons. The campaign supports one cup run; there is no career-mode equivalent that tracks performance across seasons. Adding multi-season career mode would have lifted this to five stars.

Four-and-a-half stars. Strong football arcade with Sensible-Soccer-tradition tactical depth. Recommended for football fans who want the proper analog feel rather than power-shot button-mashing.
