Flak Flame is an anti-aircraft shooter where you fire flak shells into the sky to hit incoming bombers. Time-of-flight matters; you have to lead targets in three dimensions. The format is reminiscent of WWII flak gunner sims with modern presentation.

What works is the three-dimensional aim. Targets fly at different altitudes and trajectories. The flak shell has a fuse-time that determines explosion altitude. Setting fuse-time and aim direction simultaneously is the format's skill demand.

What does not work is the difficulty progression. Early waves are easy because the targets are slow and predictable. Late waves are extremely hard because targets move at jet speeds with unpredictable trajectories. The jump from easy to hard is abrupt.

Twenty missions across three campaign settings. London Blitz and Pacific Theatre cover the historical periods, with a modern-day variant added as a third option. Visual themes vary but gameplay is identical.

Tested with mouse-aim mostly. The three-dimensional aim benefits from mouse precision. Gamepad twin-stick is acceptable. Touch is supported but loses precision at high target speeds.

Where the game tries hardest is the realistic flak ballistics. Shells follow parabolic arcs, with wind affecting trajectory at high altitude. Atmospheric pressure (modeled) also affects velocity. The ballistics work is detail-level realism for a niche format.

Where I would push back is the absence of co-gunner support. Real flak crews had multiple gunners coordinating fire. A two-player local co-op (or co-op AI) would have added depth. Single-gunner-only is limiting for the format.

Three stars. Functional flak-shooter with detailed ballistics and abrupt difficulty curve. Skippable unless you specifically want WWII flak-gunner gameplay.
