Editor review

Mortar Call is an indirect-fire shooter where you call mortar strikes by setting coordinates rather than direct aim. The format inverts the typical shooter. You do not see your target through a scope; you read map coordinates and call shells.

What works is the coordinate-aim model. The map shows target positions. You set X and Y coordinates plus elevation angle to determine impact location. Each shell takes time to arrive. Leading moving targets requires predicting where they will be when the shell lands.

Twenty missions across three themed campaigns. The first campaign uses static targets. The second adds moving targets, and the third introduces civilian-avoidance constraints.

Tested with mouse-and-keyboard. The coordinate-based aim does not benefit from gamepad or touch. The format is fundamentally a mouse-precision game.

Where the game tries hardest is the impact-prediction visualisation. Before firing, a translucent target marker shows where the shell will land based on current settings. This onboarding tool helps new players learn the coordinate system.

Where I would push back is the absence of multi-shell strategies. Real mortar work involves multiple shells in sequence for area coverage. Mortar Call limits you to one shell at a time. Multi-shell barrage modes would have added strategic depth.

Three stars. Functional indirect-fire shooter with novel coordinate-based aim. Limited by single-shell mechanic.
