Editor review
Recon Loop is a reconnaissance-focus shooter with stealth elements. Each mission requires you to gather intelligence (photographs and document scans, plus occasional audio recordings) before engaging or extracting. Twenty missions.
What works is the dual-objective design. Combat is not the primary goal; intelligence-gathering is. Players who engage carelessly without recon objectives complete will fail missions even if they kill all enemies. The objective hierarchy is the format's defining trait.
Twenty missions across four campaign acts. Each act introduces specific recon-objective types. The fourth act layers all objective types into single missions.
Tested with mouse-and-keyboard. Stealth movement (slow walk via shift) and quick combat both need precise inputs. Gamepad is supported but the format benefits from mouse precision for the recon-photo aim mode.
Where the design earns its rating is the stealth-detection model. Enemy AI has visible cone-of-vision indicators. Players can read these to plan stealth routes. The model is approachable for stealth-game newcomers.
Where I would push back is the difficulty curve. The first act is easy enough that stealth feels optional. The fourth act is hard enough that stealth is mandatory. The mid-campaign jump is abrupt.
Three-and-a-half stars. Solid recon-shooter with thoughtful objective hierarchy. Limited by abrupt mid-campaign difficulty jump.
